2009 has been an exciting year at Filipino Family Fund.
This year, Filipino Family Fund condemned President Obama's reversal of the Mexico City Policy (which banned the use of federal funds for foreign abortions), and challenged the Obama Administration to improve protection of the civil rights of Asian Americans and their relatives abroad who do not support this decision.
For example: - Filipino Family Fund founder, Ms. Eileen Macapanas-Cosby, met with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and began a dialogue to seek protection of the unborn's right to life through foreign policy, a right which is explicitly protected by the Philippine Constitution.
- Atty. Joe Cosby and Dr. Estanislao (both advisors to the Fund and members of the Vatican Foundation, Centismus Annus Pro-Pontifice) formed a coalition to start a Manila chapter where business and public policy leaders could work together to better understand the Church's social doctrine.
- This Fall, Mrs. Marylou Gonzalez met with Filipino diaspora leaders to oppose healthcare reforms in the U.S. which would fund abortion and eugenics.
- Ms. Macapanas-Cosby met with Fr. Melvin Castro after the typhoon in Manila to talk about ways to support the Church. The Bishops have now formed a coalition with the Youth and Prolife arms of their conference and are working with lay community leaders like Couples for Christ, El Shaddai, World Youth Alliance and the Filipino Family to support this effort.
- The Filipino Family Fund is working with the Theology of the Body Institute to help support the Church in the Philippines to emmerse the youth in sustainable family planning that is in accord with the teachings of the Church.
